Ragan’s PR daily posted 4 reasons why a PR company should look after your social media channels.

I’d like to add my own reasons.

PR’s have the ability to understand where the next “big thing” in social media will be. We have to have our finger on the pulse, so it makes sense to employ someone who understands this space.

PR’s should be able to creatively use your social media channel in order to engage the audience you’re after. There’s no point in posting pointless information, as PR’s it’s our job to ensure your message is reaching the correct audience – whatever the method of communication used is.

PR’s now live and breathe social media. Why give yourself extra work, when you can employ someone who understands (and potentially LOVES) social media.

While written somewhat tongue in cheek (IMHO) the list of “20 things PR clients should know” rings very true to me as a PR professional.

Suggestions such as “Social media is more than Facebook and Twitter” and “No, we’re not writing any more “…pleased to announce…” ledes. “

“Ditto for “We’re so excited/thrilled/happy” CEO quotes. Pretend you’re explaining the story to a friend over drinks, and then give us that quote.”

Sure it sounds simple enough but that’s the point, it’s often the simple things that get overlooked.

My favourite point is the last one…(go and have a read)… It’s my favourite because I’m certain there are elements of each client we all adore and sometimes we neglect to tell you (as our client) this!

In the spirit of giving we’ve found some charities that support those in need on the NSW Central Coast. It’s never too late to make a donation or offer your services.

Mary Mac’s – Woy Woy - A project of the Catholic parish of Woy Woy, Mary Mac’s provides support and meals to those in need Monday – Friday 11.00am-1.00pm.

United Way Central Coast - They support over 85 charities based on the NSW Central Coast and have done so since 1980.

RSPCA Central Coast – Helping those without a voice, our four legged friends are often overlooked at Christmas time. Remember that a puppy or kitten isn’t just a “gift” it’s a commitment.

It goes without saying there’s always Vinnies, Red Cross, Salvos,  Ted Noffs, National Breast Cancer Foundation, Starlight Foundation and many many more

At the start of the year Pursuit was proud to assist with the Empire Bay Community Fundraiser where an astounding $4,500 was raised for QLD Flood victims. Most recently we’ve supported a number of charity activities organised by the Empire Bay Progress Association.

We’ve continued to work on campaigns for a number of businesses with Central Coast offices, and those wanting to communicate their messages to the community of the Central Coast.

In 2011 Pursuit  built on our success on number of large national and metropolitan campaigns and continued to achieve amazing results for our clients and look forward to maintaining this momentum in 2012.

Our PR tips and tricks  were offered throughout the year to our blog followers and we engaged with a large number of fans on Facebook and Twitter. (Why not head over there now and like us or follow us?)

For now, I wish you the very happiest of Christmases. May you enjoy all that’s important this festive season – family, friends and those in your community.

As a “gift” to your customers, suppliers, supporters and everyone else who supports your business – include a small footnote in your email signature as to when you’ll be closing for Christmas and when you’ll be open again. A generic email stating this may get lost, whereas if your details are in your signature or on your website – it’ll make it easier for everyone to find / remember.

It’s simple but is overlooked so often.

Pursuit Communications will be closed from Thursday 22 December 2011 and will reopen Monday 9 January 2012.

Currently app users are treated to an “ad” free experience – however with this new move, these ads would be impossible to ignore.
